July Wrap Up + August TBR

Guys I read 8 whole books this month that’s like unheard of for me! I’m such a slow reader haha but I guess with all my travels this month I had a lot of car/plane time for reading.

1. Pop Goes the Weasel (Helen Grace #2) by M.J. Arlidge:

  • rating: ★★☆☆☆
  • continuing the series? definite no.
  • thoughts: definitely take a pass on this one. Wasn’t a fan of the writing style… or the plot… or the characters…

2. Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes #1) by Sara Raasch:

  • rating: ★★★★☆
  • continuing the series? maybe if I have more time/when I finish reading the books on my TBR 🙂
  • thoughts: hated the girl that narrated the autiobook but the story was good! Not amazing, but might consider finishing the series when I have more time. Also can we talk about Prince Theron for a sec because I want to know more about that cutie! And I really liked how badass Meria became and how the world was split into seasons and stuff that was awesome.

3. Poison Study (Study #1) by Maria V. Snyder:

  • rating: ★★★★☆
  • continuing the series? probably.
  • thoughts: the beginning of this series is so similar to throne of glass it’s insane! The opening scenes are like the exact same omg. I really liked Yelena and how strong she became. The writing style wasn’t great, sometimes I felt like the modern dialogue clashed quite a bit with the “medieval-ish” setting, but other than that quite an enjoyable read. Also this book is so so dark and twisted I loved it books that dive deep like that are just *sighs with happiness*. Not a psychopath I swear but authors who can pull off the dark and twisty have a gift! Probably will continue this series later but for now I have a massive TBR to get to :((

4. Stardust by Neil Gaiman:

  • rating: ★★★★☆
  • thoughts: loved this book! I laughed out loud quite a few times haha the characters are just so sassy I love it! I only wish the witches had as big of a part as they do in the movie. Neil Gaiman’s witches are CREEPY and I loved it! Really wished they could have had a bigger role but oh well. Also this book could have standed to be a couple hundred pages longer. I’m a stickler for details and imagery (George R.R. Martin, you spoil me so!) and sometimes during this book I would be like “what just happened… how did these characters get here…” I also felt like the whole thing was rushed at the end. BUT still a very enjoyable read! (Can you tell I’m a fantasy sucker??)

5. Captive Prince (Captive Prince, #1) by C.S. Pacat

  • rating: ★★★★☆
  • continuing the series? YES
  • thoughts: ok I never thought erotic gay porn would have me so invested in a series but here we are! Lol just kidding but seriously this series is so addictive and the characters are amazingggg and there’s lots of political elements I loved it. Get ready to love some of the characters and hate the rest. DON’T expect the song of achilles because this book isn’t like it at all but it’s definitely worth reading. I went out and grabbed the second and third book and can’t wait to dive in!

6. Do Unto Animals by Tracey Stewart:

  • rating: ★★★★★
  • thoughts: as a huge animal lover this book just speaks to my goals in life. The whole thing is just about being kind to animals and stuff you can make for them and it’s just the sweetest thing ever! It also lightly touches on animal cruelty in the food industry and talks about vegetarianism and veganism. A great great read!

7. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur:

  • rating: ★★★★★
  • thoughts: every girl needs to read this. Just read it. The drawings, the prose, the message, this whole book is just stunning!

8. An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir:

  • rating: ★★★★★
  • continuing the series? YES DYING FOR THE NEXT ONE!!
  • thoughts: MY. CHILD. *screaming* Ok this book is SO amazing I’m gonna do a more detailed review soon but it’s just amazing! I loved the Roman aspects and Elias and Helene are my children and I warmed up to Laia by the end so that was a huge accomplishment for me heheehe. And I didn’t see the supernatural elements coming at all so that was a cool twist. If you want a fast, action packed read with dark villains and gr8 characters JUST READ IT!

My August TBR is pretty undefined right now but I’m planning on finishing The Captive Prince trilogy, The Name of the Wind and Nevernight 🙂
